What are the benefits of dentures?

  • Affordable
  • Long-lasting
  • Prevents bone loss
  • Boosts confidence and self-esteem
  • Helps you chew and digest food easily
  • Restores lost lip-support

What types are available?

Dentures are comprised of porcelain or acrylic teeth attached to an acrylic base, which mimics the natural gum. Our dental practice in Mill Hill offers two different types of dentures:

  • Bar-retained dentures

Two to five implants are placed in the jawbone. A curved thin metal bar is attached to the implants. Small clips are attached to the bar, which in turn hold the denture in place.

  • Ball-retained dentures

Ball-shaped metal pieces are attached to implants in the jawbone, and fit into corresponding attachments on the denture.

Are they right for me?

If you’re missing all or most of your teeth, dentures may be the perfect treatment for you. You must have enough jawbone to support the implants, however. Otherwise, a bone graft may be necessary to strengthen the bone beforehand. One of our skilled and experienced dentists in Mill Hill can determine the best treatment for you at your initial consultation.

What does treatment involve?

Your private dentist in Mill Hill will carry out the procedure under a local anaesthetic to numb the area. You may also be given a sedative to help you relax. Firstly, your implants will be fitted in the stronger jawbone at the front of your mouth. A temporary set a teeth will then be fixed to the implants. A healing period of at least six months is required for your mouth to recover. Once your mouth has healed, you will return to our dental surgery in Hill Mill for your dentures to be fitted.

What about aftercare?

Your dentures should be cleaned with a soft-bristled toothbrush and cold or lukewarm water. Using hot water along with toothpaste will cause the dentures to deteriorate. Your dentist in Mill Hill will advise you on looking after your dentures correctly.
